Studio Policies
Lessons and Events
All students receive weekly private lessons during the academic year and 6-8 group lessons per year. All students will be student-affiliate members of Dallas Music Teacher’s Association and after the first year of study are expected as a minimum to participate in annual theory exams and DMTA Achievement Auditions. Many other festivals and competitions are offered throughout the year on an optional basis. Studio recitals take place in December and May and participation is required.
Group lessons
Group lessons will occur approximately once per month during the academic year. Students are expected to perform at least one piece (usually by memory) at each group lesson. Attendance is required and group lessons cannot be made up. The fee for group lessons is included in the tuition.
Missed lessons
Attendance at weekly private lessons is required. Lessons missed by the student will not be made up. Extenuating circumstances will be considered individually. Any lessons missed by the teacher will be made up at a mutually agreed upon time.
Practice expectations
Regular practice is essential to progress in any musical endeavor. Students are expected to practice for the length of their lesson five days per week. Insufficient practice time will result in unsatisfactory achievement.
Communication
Open communication between parent and teacher is critical to success in any educational endeavor. Parents are encouraged to attend private lessons at any time. Parents are also welcome to call or e-mail at any time. Please check your student's weekly assignment sheet for reminders about upcoming events, deadlines, etc.. Check the calendar on this website for information about private lessons, group lessons, and recitals.
Withdrawal
Registration is from August to August. Tuition will not be reimbursed if a student withdraws before the end of the year.
Exit Procedure
Under certain conditions, a student may be asked to discontinue music study. These conditions include, but are not limited to:

- non-payment or recurrent lateness in payment of tuition
- excessive absenteeism or tardiness
- non-participation in activities including private lessons, group lessons, recitals, and related activities
- excessive and recurrent non-preparation of assignments
- a consistent lack of practice
- perception that this studio may not be suited for the needs of a particular student
- failure to participate in summer lessons
